Reaching Japan with the Sullins Family
Meet the Sullins
おはようございます! ("Good morning!")
We are the Sullins family! (Terry & Darlene, and daughters; Kitty, Alee & Allora). We are just an average family of five with a passion and heart to serve the Lord. We felt God pulling us into missionary work for a while now, and took our first mission trip to El Salvador as a family in Spring of 2026. Before then, Terry had previously gone to El Salvador the year before on a mission trip and in the past Darlene has gone to Haiti on a medical mission trip. We felt a strong calling for the rural parts of Japan back in Summer of 2025 and have been working hard to fulfill that calling that we all felt.
Why the rural parts of Japan? We see the need for missionaries in Japan as a whole and our hearts want to help. We want to break the unfortunate suicide numbers and bring hope, peace and comfort to these people. Our hearts especially break for the rural communities every time we see more and more akiya house listings and knowing that there are people in the area that are all alone. The elderly are being abandoned, and left alone during their last days. We want to comfort them, show them love and hope, and make every last minute they have a chance to get to know and accept Christ because every minute matters. We are choosing quality over quantity. A lot of Christian Outreach programs in Japan are aimed in the cities because of numbers. But with such a dense population in a very rushed "Go-Go" environment we feel that for us it would be hard to form those relationships that are based around friendship and trust. In a more relaxed environment such as those in the rural areas we would have a better chance at accomplishing that goal and possibly reaching more people in the end through the older generations breaking traditions.
Going to Japan will be HARD, and we are fully aware and understand this. We will be leaving behind possessions, animals, familiar lifestyle, family, friends, and the Christian fellowship that so many take for granted. We are already determined and dedicated to leave everything behind to do God's calling.
Psalm 42: 1-2 "As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?".
This verse means a lot to me personally because when do I FEEL God's presence the most? When I am talking to others about Him! Kind of like when years after a loved one passes and you see something that reminds you of them, or are looking through pictures and start telling people stories and memories about that said loved one, and all of a sudden your memory start flooding through and it's as if they are right there with you. That's how it is when I tell others about Jesus and it brings so much excitement and urgency to tell others as much about Him as I can so they will also get a chance to meet Him! It creates such a strong desire and eagerness to share the Gospel!
"The Harvest is Plentiful"
Matthew 9:37 & Luke 10:2
In both verses Jesus is speaking to His disciples and uses the phrase, "The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few".
